Atlantic tropical wave becomes better organised

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Tuesday July 31, 2012 -  The National Hurricane Centre (NHC) is reporting that showers and thunderstorms have become better organised in a low pressure system east-southeast of the windward islands.

The 7:30 p.m. EST NHC report indicated that the low pressure system was located near 9.7 north 43.0 west or about 1150 miles east-southeast of the windward islands.

The National Hurricane Center reports that maximum sustained winds are 30 miles per hour and "environmental conditions are at least marginally conducive for some gradual development of this disturbance".

The estimated minimum central pressure for the system has dropped to 1009 mb.

Earlier this year Philip J. Klotzbach and William M. Gray of the Department of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University slightly increased their forecast for the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane season. The season is expected to see about 13 named storms, including 5 hurricanes, with two of them being major during the 2012 hurricane season.
