JAMAICAN scientist Dr Henry Lowe claims he has discovered a formula that can reduce and eliminate prostate cancer.
According to the Jamaican Observer Newspaper, with the discovery of this new formula, Professor Lowe's announcement has now thrown “a lifeline to men worldwide”
At the launch of Bio-Tech R&D Institute at the Terra Nova Hotel in Kingston, Dr Lowe told guests: "I am pleased to announce that we have reached the final stages in the development of the Alpha Prostate Formula, which will be on the market in the next three months under the Eden Gardens brand,"
Professor Lowe, who is the executive chairman of Environmental Health Foundation in Kingston said that the formula will first will be locally produced as a nutraceutical - that is as a food product that provides health and medical benefits, including the prevention and treatment of the cancer.
The formula will be derived from dried “ball moss” - a weed commonly seen in Jamaican gardens and on electric power lines.
Professor Lowe had earlier claimed that although compounds in the plant's material were showing strong action against HIV, the focus of his work was on the anti-cancer effects. He said that the laboratory studies indicated that the plant compounds were effective in all the cancer cell lines; but subsequently, he narrowed his research to prostate cancer because he found the formula to have major prostate anti-cancer activity.
The Bio-Tech R&D Institute brings together Jamaica's four leading research institutions -- the University of the West Indies, University of Technology, Northern Caribbean University and the Scientific Research Council.
In addition to his other shareholders, Professor Lowe said he has forged a partnership with the largest nutraceutical company in China, which will distribute the formula in that Asian country.
"We expect that gaining even one per cent of the Chinese market will amount to tremendous US dollar value export earnings — perhaps the most rewarding endeavours and investments in our country in recent times," said Dr Lowe.
In view of the reportedly high incidence of prostate cancer in St. Lucia and the many deaths associated with it, the Choiseul Powerhouse welcomes and salutes the news of the discovery by Professor Lowe.
Long Live the Caribbean!
