The farmers in Choiseul are up in arms against the government of St. Lucia for what they claim is Government's attempt to “kill agriculture” by robbing the district of prime agricultural lands.
The farmers have called on the government to put a stop to a residential housing project undertaken by the Ministry of Housing in a prime agricultural area known as Bongalo in the Balembouche area.
In that regard, the farmers have petitioned the Prime Minister Stephenson King, Ministers Eziekel Joseph, Richard Frederick and Rufus Bousquet (who is also the parliamentary representative) for urgent action. Although the petition was presented nine (9) months ago, the farmers are yet to receive a reply.
The POWERHOUSE calls on the Government to attend to the controversy with a sense of urgency as it will seriously impact on the livelihoods of the farmers and before it’s too late.
