The
past week was a gloomy one for me. I lost two close relatives in the “valley”
of death. Both were young, able-bodied persons with a potentially bright future
ahead of them.

JADIA JN PIERRE
I
was also very worried about Jadia, especially in the context of the rumours of
death doing the rounds. I knew her father Mr Francisco Jn pierre had flown to
Martinique to attend to his daughter; and I knew - based on the feedback from
his close associates - that Jadia was thought to be “critical” because of the
excruciating - and perhaps near deadly - pain she endured. That might have given currency to the rumours.
However,
I found comfort in the belief that this young and brilliant intellectual was
not going anywhere yet! She had work to do! And indeed, my prayers were
answered!
GENERAL SECRETARY- LEO CLARKE
This
morning I got an email from General Secretary Leo Clarke captioned “JADIA IS
HEALED” and that immediately brightened my day. The email read:
“Brothers/Sisters:
For all of you who continue to be concerned
about Sis. Jadia's health, I wish to share her most recent message to me
(received at 7.51 p.m. - Sept 5): "Out of Hospital...Walking...Zero
pain". Our prayers have been answered. The Press Secretary should be home
soon.”
GS
Bravo
JADIA! I’m looking forward to seeing you soon!
Jadia’s
rapid recovery is first of all a tribute to medical science and specifically to
the quality of health care available in Martinique. I look forward to the day
when we can compare favourably with our neighbor - hopefully, this day will come upon the
completion of our new national hospital and the full implementation of
universal health care. I hope they both will come sooner than later – at least
before the end of this current “quinquennium”.

JADIA'S DAD: FRANCISCO JN PIERRE
Finally,
a word to Jadia’s Dad: Francisco, you have proven that are a great father! I
know Jadia’s illness represented a second instance of a potentially grave
family illness in your family; and you rose to the occasion each time, ensuring
the survival of your kids. May God bless you, Francisco!
