IS TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL IN THE MAKING?

A strong tropical wave located between 40 and 45 degrees west and south of 10 degrees north is moving towards the Caribbean. According to Accuweather experts, it currently appears (on satellite) as a “solid cloud mass” with some mid- and upper-level rotation, but “no closed low-level circulation”.

In other words, while it does show any signs of a tropical cyclone yet, it could well develop into one, given conditions that are conducive.

It is described as “the most impressive wave” for this season. Computer forecasts however do not show this wave “developing into an organized tropical cyclone over the next few days”; but it is something we need to keep an eye on as it draws closer to us.

St. Lucia and the rest of the Eastern Caribbean islands are asked to take note.
