France expels Libyan diplomats (St. Lucia Continues to Accept Blood Money)

src: AP, Friday, May 06, 2011

France has expelled 14 Libyan diplomats who served the government of Muammar Gaddafi, giving them two days to leave. The French action followed similar measures by Britain to expel Libyan diplomats from London.

The foreign ministry made the announcement on Friday, saying it no longer recognised the group's diplomatic status. The 14 have been deemed "persona non grata," and that they have between 24 to 48 hours to leave France, the ministry said in a statement, without elaborating.

It accused them of "activities incompatible with the relevant UN resolutions ... and contrary to the protection of Libyan civilians".

France and Britain are pressing to toughen a NATO bombing campaign against troops loyal to Muammar Gaddafi, Libya's long-time leader, as part of a UN-mandated effort to protect Libyan civilians.

Member’s Note: Bousquet maintains diplomatic relations between St. Lucia and Libya and gladly accepts aid even as the Gadhafi government continues to shoot down people of Libya. Why does Tucker continue to accept blood money from Gadhafi? Is it to maintain his $2.2M condo at the Landings.
