The Saint Labour Party town hall meeting train makes its second stop, this time under the gaze of the iconic Pitons.

SLP'S GENERAL SECRETARY, LEO CLARKE
The second in a planned island-wide series of town-hall meetings will be hosted in Soufriere at the Soufriere Primary School starting at 7.00 p.m., on Thursday April 18th, 2013.

Deputy Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre along with Soufriere/Fond St. Jacque Parliamentary Representative Harold Dalson will be present to discuss issues of both national and constituency interest.

The first town hall meeting was held on Thursday 4th April in Bellevue where hundreds of residents from Vieux-Fort North turned out to dialogue with their Parliamentary Representative, Moses Jn. Baptiste and Prime Minister Dr. Kenny D. Anthony on issues related to Vieux-Fort North in particular and Saint Lucia in general.

During the course of the meeting, residents raised a number of issues such as the need to urgently address damaged community infrastructure, as well as the need to create new opportunities for employment, given the decline in the banana industry.

Among other things, the Prime Minister pointed to potential opportunities which can spring from the Coconut Industry. Given that Vieux-Fort North is primarily an agricultural community; the growing demand for coconuts and its by-products offers an opportunity for diversification.

Representative Moses Jn. Baptiste gave an account of his stewardship and outlined plans to continue to improve the lives of the people of Vieux-Fort North.

Dr. Anthony gave an update on the state of the economy, the situation existing between the government of Saint Lucia and the CSA, the on-going Saint Jude’s Hospital project, among other matters of public interest.

During the session, the Government came in for praise on its handling of the affairs of Saint Lucia in such difficult times and for the introduction of new programmes such as NICE.
