CHOISEUL STRUCK BY UNPRECEDENTED TRAGEDY

. . . ALL 19 DEAD AFTER MINIBUS PLUNGED FROM CLIFF TO BEACH!

The lovely Anse John Beach – a hidden rendezvous for family picnic – all of a sudden looked like the scene of a deadly plane crash with no survivors, and being visited by hundreds of curious onlookers from all parts of Choiseul/Saltibus.

At about, 8 PM, the news broke out that a minibus from Dugard Micoud loaded with passengers brushed passed “Aldine’s House” on top of a coastal cliff in Morne Sion, Choiseul and plunged unto the Anse John beach 120 ft below.
Where the tragedy happened.

The bus was returning to Dugard from Choiseul after a funeral; but detoured to Delcer to pay respects to the family of the deceased. They were driving down the Morne Sion Road heading south to Choiseul village when the bus did not make the left turn, careening over the cliff and landing straight onto the beach.

Upon arrival on the scene, three strewn bodies were seen on the beach being washed by the waves; two of them were apparently dead; but the third was showing signs of life. She was taken to the St. Jude's Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

But it wasn’t until the capsized wreck - which was partially submerged by the wave action - was turned over that the full extent of the horror story was revealed. The first victim hoisted from the wreck was a lifeless, mutilated body of a two-year old boy wearing a white shirt and black pants. What followed thereafter deadened the human faculties and sensibilities beyond imagination, as a seemingly never-ending series of dead bodies were churned out of the wreck. They were all put to lay on the beach - side by side, one on top of each other! The final count was 18 + 1.

Emotional screams of sadness, grief, disbelief and pain filled the air. A gentleman from Gertrine reported to have lost his three kids in the nightmare.

Choiseul -  and St. Lucia at large - is now in a state of deep mourning.

  2. Not pursuing a political agenda here but I've learnt that Lorne & his team were amongst the folks rushing to the site and getting there early. It is indeed commendable the effort put in by them to help and attempt to save lives albeit the tragedy had already occurred.

In the dark cold waves they helped emergency personnel get the lifeless bodies out. Lorne called in to a radio program on at the time and the sadness in his voice was evident.

He encouraged St. Lucians to love each other and let that be their greatest mandate. He asked that we all reach out to the families and friends of those affected.

I do extend condolences to the families and friends of those affected especially that of these young one who didn't make it.

Well done Mr. Lorne Theophilus and your team for putting your personal gain aside and demonstrating such a great level of love for your fellow men.
