One of the accused perpetrators of
the rape and kidnap of a developmentally-challenged boy from Canaries was in
Choiseul on Sunday afternoon to pay respects to his mother, who passed away a day
before the mauling of the helpless autistic victim! His alleged co-partner -
the marine police friend - was there with him!

Upon their arrival at his mother’s
home, there was an “eerie feeling” that something was amiss. Apparently, the
two men could not contain their potentially intimately gay relationship; and
the seemingly homophobic gathering of sympathizers openly expressed some
displeasure at the overt leakage. A couple of the relatives were bold enough to
confront them with direct questions about their sexual orientation. The men
denied vehemently.
The couple left Choiseul at about
6.30 pm Sunday; but the debate about them continued into the night and became the
headline at the wake.

Then Monday morning came and news
that an autistic boy was the victim of a dastardly act of sodomy and kidnapping
saturated the airwaves. The way Sam Flood put out the gory details out on that morning
stirred my blood to mutiny. Indeed, it was found out later that it was the same
couple who denied the existence of such a relationship. That virtually brought
the crime to my doorstep.
Almost after a week of the story dominating
the airwaves, some good news finally came: that the alleged culprits had been
charged with kidnapping and sodomy; it was even better news to know that they
had been remanded in custody at the Bordelais Correctional facility with no bail
until October.

The episode represented “a double-hit”
for the mourning family of one of the perpetrators whose mother passed away the
day before the incident. The mother will be buried sometime next week and it’s
indeed regrettable that the son wouldn’t even be able to pay his final respects
to his mum.
Meanwhile, the family is in a state
of double jeopardy, as they now have to contend with the son’s case and (at the
same time) with his mother’s death.
The son was due back in Choiseul on
Monday to help make arrangements for his mother’s burial and to help take care
of his 4 younger siblings who are between the ages of 17 to 10.
